Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Paro International Airport, our representative will warmly welcome you and escort you to your hotel in Thimphu, the vibrant capital city of Bhutan. Your journey begins with a picturesque drive along the winding road that follows the beautiful Paro River.
Our first stop is the historic Simtokha Dzong, the oldest dzong in Bhutan, believed to guard the region against evil spirits. Its name translates to ‘Atop a Demon’. This historical site also houses the Rigney School for Dzongkha and monastic studies, attended by both monks and laypeople.

Experience the grandeur of Tashichho Dzong, also known as ‘The Fortress of the Dharma Raja.’ It has traditionally been the seat of the Druk Desi, the head of Bhutan’s civil government.

Note: Tashichho Dzong is open during weekdays after office hours (5pm onwards) and from 9am to 5pm on weekends.

On the second day, experience the heart of Bhutanese culture and tradition as you explore these remarkable sites in Thimphu. Visit the Memorial Chorten (Buddhist funeral monument) and enjoy panoramic city views from Changangkha Lhakhang Temple.

Discover ancient texts at the National Library of Bhutan and witness traditional crafts at the School of Art and Handicraft, renowned for its Thangka paintings and mud statues. Immerse yourself in the rich heritage of Bhutan’s capital city.

The Folk Heritage Museum, housed in a historic 19th-century building since 2001, offers a vivid portrayal of rural Bhutanese life through tools, artifacts, and everyday objects.

Established in 1988, the National Institute of Traditional Medicine integrates modern science with traditional healing practices, showcasing Bhutan’s unique approach to healthcare.

Begin the day with breakfast before driving to Punakha. Along the way, enjoy scenic views as you make your way to this historical town.

On the way to Punakha from Thimphu, the Dochula Pass offers a 360-degree of beautiful panoramic view of the Himalayan mountain range, especially on clear winter days.

In Punakha, explore the majestic Punakha Dzong, known as ‘the palace of great happiness or bliss’. This impressive fortress is the second largest dzong in Bhutan and holds significant cultural and religious importance.

Visit Chimi Lhakhang, situated on a round hillock near Punakha and adorned with hundreds of prayer flags. This monastery, built in 1499, is dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kinley, known as ‘the Divine Madman’ or the ‘Mad Saint’.

After breakfast, we embark on an hour-long hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a stunning example of Bhutanese architecture and artistry. Perched on a scenic ridge above Punakha valley, this four-story temple is dedicated to the wellbeing of the kingdom, its people, and all sentient beings. The Chorten was to dispel negative forces and promote peace, stability, and harmony, the Chorten stands as a beacon of tranquility in an ever-changing world.

Today we will drive back to Paro and visit National Museum and Paro Dzong.

As we drive through picturesque landscapes, we’ll make our way to Paro, where you’ll be captivated by the majestic Paro Dzong, also known as Ringpung Dzong, meaning ‘Fortress on a Heap of Jewels’. This magnificent structure is a prime example of Bhutanese architecture and one of the most renowned dzongs in the country.

Next, visit the National Museum of Bhutan is a unique circular building also known as Ta-dzong which is an ancient watchtower above the Paro Dzong.

Begin the day with a hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, also known as the ‘Tiger’s Nest.’ Perched dramatically on a vertical cliff at an altitude of 3,000 meters north of Paro, this stunning monastery is Bhutan’s most famous and unofficial symbol.
Afterward, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, a significant Himalayan Buddhist temple near Paro Airport. Built in the 7th century, it is one of Bhutan’s oldest and most revered religious sites.

Today, you will be transferred to the airport for your onward journey, taking with you unforgettable memories of Bhutan’s rich culture and stunning landscapes.
